사도행전 9:29 말씀을 읽고 도전이 된 내용과 묵상하고 적용할 사항을 정리해 보았습니다.
Acts 9:29 He would often talk and argue with the Jewish people who spoke Greek, but they were trying to kill him.
죽음을 무릅쓴 말 → 바울의 사명과 헌신
바울은 다메섹 도상에서 예수님을 만나 회심한 후 예루살렘((26,28절)에서 유대인들과 공개적으로 말하고 논쟁도 했습니다. 그러나 그의 말을 듣고 논쟁하던 자들은 바울을 죽이려고 했습니다(29절).
진리를 말하고 진리에 입각하여 말한다 하더라도 그를 시기하고 질투하며 진리를 모르는 사람들은 진리를 말하는 자를 오히려 핍박하고 죽이려고까지 합니다. 바울이 말하는 상황에서 바울 자신도 아마 이러한 분위기나 움직임을 알았을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 바울 자신이 그리스도인을 죽이려 했고, 실제로 스데반 집사의 죽음에 동의하기도 했습니다(행 8:1).
자신이 한 일이 있었고 핍박할 때 자신의 마음도 있었으므로 그는 자신이 하는 말이나 행동, 특히 공개적으로 하는 예수님에 관한 말과 행동이 얼마나 위험한 것인지 분명히 알고 있었을 것입니다. 그러나 바울은 이러한 상황에 굴하지 않고 공개적으로 말하며 죽음을 무릅쓰고 예수님을 전하며 복음을 증거 했습니다. 이것은 바울이 다메섹 도상에서 예수님을 만나고 벙어리 된 후 깊이 생각했고, 완전히 회심되어 변화된(converted) 것을 증거 하는 장면입니다.
바울의 죽음을 무릅쓴 전도, 논쟁은 오늘날 제가 눈치 보며 예수님을 전하고 따르는 삶과 대비되어 너무도 귀한 헌신이고 사명입니다. 저는 그저 바울의 이러한 헌신에 비하여 아무것도 아닌 삶을 살아가고 있는 것과 같습니다. 주여, 이 어리석고 연약하며 두려움 많은 자를 가엾이 여겨주시고 용서하여 주시옵소서.. 주여, 이러한 변화된 삶을 저도 살아갈 수 있게 되길 기도드립니다. 일상에서 매일 두려움에 떨며 주님을 제대로 증거 하지 않고 살아가는 연약한 자를 불쌍히 여겨 주시옵소서.. 오늘은 바울의 본을 따라 예수님을 증거 하는 일상과 인생과 삶이 되길 간절히 기대해 봅니다. 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘!

Words that cost him his life → Paul's mission and commitment
After Paul met Jesus on the Damascus road and was converted, he spoke and argued publicly with the Jews in Jerusalem (vv. 26,28), but those who heard him and argued with him sought to kill him (v. 29).
Even when one speaks the truth and speaks in accordance with the truth, those who are envious, jealous, and ignorant of the truth would rather persecute and even kill the one who speaks the truth. Paul himself was probably aware of this mood or movement in the situation he was speaking of, for he himself had sought to kill Christians and had actually agreed to the death of the deacon Stephen (Acts 8:1).
Because of what he had done and his own heart during his persecution, he must have known how dangerous it was to say or do anything, especially publicly, about Jesus. But Paul was not deterred by this, and he spoke out publicly and testified to the gospel, even to the point of death, preaching Jesus. This is a testimony to the fact that after Paul met Jesus on the Damascus road and became mute, he pondered, and was completely converted.
Paul's death-defying evangelism and controversy is a commitment and mission that is so precious in contrast to the life of preaching and following Jesus that I see today. I am living a life that is nothing compared to this commitment of Paul's. Lord, consider this foolish, weak, and fearful man, and forgive me. Lord, I pray that I may be able to live this transformed life myself. Have pity on the weak who live in fear day in and day out and do not witness to You properly... Today, I eagerly look forward to following Paul's example and making my daily life a witness for Jesus. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen!
