믿음이 부족한 자에 대한 주님의 대응 → 자신을 보여주심

 

 

 

요한복음 20:25-28 말씀을 읽고 도전이 된 내용과 묵상하고 적용할 사항을 정리해 보았습니다.

 

John 20:25-28 The other followers kept telling Thomas, "We saw the Lord." But Thomas said, "I will not believe it until I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side." A week later the followers were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but Jesus came in and stood right in the middle of them. He said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand here in my side. Stop being an unbeliever and believe." Thomas said to him, 'My Lord and my God!"

 

 

믿음이 부족한 자에 대한 주님의 대응 → 자신을 보여주심

 

 

예수님께서 부활하신 후 제자들에게 보이셨고 (요 20:19-23), 다른 제자들이 도마에게 주님을 봤다고 말했지만 도마는 자시의 손으로 주님의 손과 옆구리를 만지고 넣어보지 않고는 믿을 수 없다고 말했습니다(25절). 일주일이 지난 후 제자들이 모인 장소에서 문이 잠겼으나 예수님께서 들어오셨고 중앙에 서셔서 제자들에게 평안하라고 말씀하신 후(26절), 도마에게는 네 손으로 내 옆구리와 손을 만져서 믿지 않는 자가 되지 말고 믿는 자가 되라(27절)고 말씀하셨습니다. 그러니 도마는 자신의 주님, 하나님으로 인정했습니다(28절).

 

 

도마가 예수님의 부활을 제자들의 말만 듣고는 믿지 못한다고 했고, 실제로 보고 경험하지 않고서는 믿을 수 없다고 생각하며 말했을 때, 이러한 부분에 대해서도 주님은 알고 계셨고, 일주일이나 뒤에 주님께서는 도마에게 나타나셔서 직접 보여 주시고 나타내주셨습니다. 그래서 도마로 하여금 믿음을 가지게 해 주셨습니다. 제가 믿음이 없어서 주님을 믿지 못하며 살아가고, 확신이 없어서 그저 그런 믿음의 삶을 살아가고 있을 때에도 주님께서는 그러한 저의 부족한 믿음에 의존하지 않으시고 언제나 믿음을 지켜주시고 믿음을 나타낼 수 있도록 성장시켜 주셔서 저를 연단하시고 믿음의 삶을 살아갈 수 있게 해 주셨습니다. 그리하녀 지금까지 부족하지만 믿음의 여정을 걷게 해 주신 것 같습니다.

 

 

주여, 제가 작은 믿음에 머무르지 아니하고 큰 믿음을 가질 수 있게 도와주시며, 이러한 작은 믿음을 가진 자를 꾸짖거나 깊이 책망하기보다 본을 보여주시고 믿도록 인도하시는 주님을 찬양드립니다. 주님께서는 믿음이 없는 자에게 다가가셔서 믿음을 가질 수 있도록 보여주시고 증명해 주시는 분이십니다. 저도 믿음이 부족한 자를 볼 때 그를 판단하기보다 주님께서 그에게 믿음을 지킬 수 있도록 역사하심을 기억하며 믿고 그와 함께 믿음의 동역을 힘 있게 지속할 수 있기를 기도드립니다.

 

 

부정적인 믿음의 상황에서도 주님을 믿는 믿음을 발전시킬 수 있는 자가 되며, 무엇보다 믿음을 가진 자가 되기를 간절히 기도드립니다. 오늘도 일상에서 믿음을 갖지 못하는 많은 순간에도 살아계신 하나님께서 제게 믿음을 갖도록 도와주심을 믿고 믿음의 여정을 걸으며 확신 있는 믿음의 삶을 살아가길 기도드립니다. 아멘!

The Lord's Response to the Lack of Faith → Showing Himself

 

 

After Jesus' resurrection, He appeared to His disciples (John 20:19-23), and when the other disciples told Thomas that they had seen Him, Thomas said that he could not believe unless he touched and put his hands into the Lord's hands and side (v. 25). A week later, in the place where the disciples were gathered, the door was locked, but Jesus entered, stood in the center, and after telling the disciples to be at peace (v. 26), he said to Thomas, "Touch my side and my hands with your hands, so that you may not be an unbeliever, but a believer (v. 27)." So Thomas acknowledged him as his Lord and God (v. 28).

 

 

 

When Thomas said that he didn't believe in the resurrection of Jesus just because the disciples told him about it, that he didn't think he could believe unless he actually saw and experienced it, the Lord knew about that, too, and a week or so later the Lord appeared to Thomas and showed him and manifested it to him, so that he could have faith. Even when I was living in a life of unbelief because I didn't have faith in the Lord, and I was living in a life of just such faith because I wasn't sure, the Lord didn't rely on my lack of faith, but He always kept my faith and grew me to be able to manifest my faith, so that I could walk in a life of faith. And I think He has been walking in a journey of faith even though I have been lacking until now.

 

 

 

I praise You, Lord, that You help me to have great faith and not to remain in little faith, and that You lead those who have this little faith to believe by example rather than by rebuking or deeply reproving them. You are the one who reaches out to those who have no faith and shows and proves to them that they can have faith. I pray that when I see someone who lacks faith, instead of judging him, I will remember that the Lord is working in him to keep his faith, and that I will be able to continue my walk of faith with him in strength.

 

 

 

It is my fervent prayer that you will be able to develop your faith in the Lord even in the face of negative faith situations, and that you will be a person of faith above all else. I pray that I will walk the journey of faith and live a life of confident faith, trusting that the living God will help me to have faith even in the many moments when I fail to have faith in my daily life.
